Thomas Beyard, Westminster?s Department of Planning, Development and Zoning Director, is serving a 400 day assignment with the Maryland National Guard in Afghanistan. He reports the modular barracks at the Kandahar Air Base are named ?MGM?, ?Tropicana?, and ?Desert Rose.? Beyard is part of the 29th Combat Aviation Brigade responsible for 2,500 military personnel and 100 aircraft.
